| The Philippine medicinal plant entrees now number over 440 and the separate lists of plants have been joined together into a Tagalog list and an English list for those plants with English designations. (See: Plant Names) Of interesting note, is the variety and seemingly amusing origins of the common names, which in itself presents as an interest ing etymological study. Frequent updates are done for photos, folkloric info, new studies, and addition of new plants. |
| The list also includes an increasing number of ornamental plants with no reported folkloric medicinal use in the Philippines which on web-search and research reveal indigenous medicinal use in other countries or subject of research studies. |
The difficulty in searching for a particular Philippine plant is the multiplicity of names that a plant may possess, from several scienfitic names to more than 30 common names, and often, many of them shared with plants of other species. The Freefind search engine will significantly facilitate your search through the haystack of scientific names, common and English names. |
